Sleep related hypoxemia disorder

  • This is also known as nocturnal hypoxemia or sleep related hypoxemia, where the blood oxygen level reduces during sleep.
  • This is believed to be secondary to a medical/ neurological disorder.
  • Significantly low blood oxygen level is seen during sleep.
  • The presence of low oxygen in blood cannot be explained by another sleep related breathing disorder such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
  • Some patients with sleep related hypoxemia also have low blood oxygen levels while awake.
